Can I receive assistance from child services if i file for temporary custody?

The child is my 2 year old third cousin, I am in New York (Bronx County) and the child is in another county in the southwest region of New York state. She is my cousin through way of her father which has been incarcerated for over 2 years (repeat offender)

So here is some brief information on the situation. The little girls mom has been in and out of rehabilitation battling alcoholism for over 25 years. She already has 2 older children removed from her care many years ago. About a year ago, the child was placed in foster care since mom had a relapse. I found out 5 months later at which point i got involved to try to foster her while mom received the care she needed to eventually get her back. My family and I (I have a girlfriend of 4 years and a step daughter who is 5 and a half) have made several trips to inquire about her case and situation and most importantly, to try to motivate “mom” and spend time with the little girl.

Since my 2 year old cousin has been with her current foster mother for a going on a year in a couple of months and due to the fact, that mom is not showing as much progress as she should, i am thinking of filing for custody before her foster man has rights to adopt her and frankly, can do and take my cousin away from all of us.

My question is, when i file for custody, can any of the counties assistst me financially with the baby. I’m the only one working currently and my though i make “decent” money, i have entirely too many expenses to take on the additional responsibility of a child. I’m torn though because i know she belongs with family.

Are county health and human social services primarily only for women, children and the elderly?

I am working class and couldn’t afford mental health services for counseling on my own. I called county social services but unless I was a police code 5150, there didn’t seem to be any social services counseling. Instead the primary chunk of social services seemed geared only towards mothers with children, children themselves, the chronically homeless, addicts, or the elderly.

Is it a mistake for childless adult males, who aren’t suicidal but need mental health counseling, to seek county services?

i live in oh and have a child that i get on the weekends and a few hours during the week. money is tight right now so i asked my friend to move in with me to help with the bills. he got out of rehab for drugs a little bit ago and is doing good and has a good job. my mom is threatening me to call child services if he moves in… does she have any ground to stand on with this and what could happen?

I’m just praying someone will be able to give me some advice.. This is very complicated so please bare with me.
First off I’m a 22yr old mother of 3, my two sons 6yrs and 3months live with me while my daughter who is 3yrs lives with her father.
She has been living with him for 2yrs now.
I split with her father in the end due to domestic violance (from him) and shortly after he involved social services saying I “physically and mentally abuse” my children. Social services were involved previously from complaints by neighbours regarding the violance.
Social workers at the time became involved for a short period then closed the case as they had no concerns of my parenting.
At the time of the break up I was giving him 3 nights per week access to my son and daughter and was also working a 50hr p/w job, I had to leave my job due to the child care issues with some very unsociable hrs.
I had to put in a claim for benefits and they refused this for 4 months as they quoted I had “willingly left my job” I was struggling to meet the rent and the housing were really coming down on me threatening me with eviction ect and said if it came to that they had no legal obligation to re-house me and the children. I have forgotten to mention at this time I also had care of my two teenage sisters one of whom is still with me and my 4yr old cousin who is now in foster care.
By this point I was really begining to struggle mentally as well as finacially and then a family member of mine who was my best friend died while she was 8 months pregnant to an asthma attack and we lost the baby as well. That was it for me I just broke down and couldn’t cope anymore, it was like I was on auto pilot I made sure all the children were fed, clothed and bathed but I know emotionally I wasn’t really there for them, I didn’t bother with house work very often and the living conditions became quite bad at one point, and back came the social workers..
I snapped our of my depression quite sharpish knowing I stood a risk of loosing my children due to my mental state and general untidiness of the home. I pulled myself up and sorted my act out, they helped me sort out my benefits and things really started to get better. My sisters then returned to my mothers care as she seemed to be making progress with her alcoholism.
Then the news came that she had relapsed and attacked my sisters again so I felt I had a duty to protect them, I went to my mums to help my sisters and try to help her, I’d left my house keys with a neighbour to feed my cats while I was away. They left my backdoor open and long story short my cars were killed and my home was now filled with teenagers taking drugs, drinking ect everything I owened was stolen or broken.. I no longer had a home. Needless to say I was evicted as it was all “my own fault” I tried involving police but they said as I’d gave my key willingly it wasn’t a police matter and there was nothing they could do. I was heart broken.
Social services then placed my sisters with their father and me into a b&b back home, they said as I no longer had anywhere to live the children would need to be placed on the CP register so they could provide us with the best resorces possible, they told me that they Were NOT going to remove my children but my cousin would have to go into foster care but I would have all the access to her i wished to have untill she could return to me at a later date.
1 week later my mother offered to sign over her house to me and the children, I didn’t want to move so far away but with everything going on I felt I had to to provide my lil ones with some stability.
I informed the social services of my plans and the next day while my children were in day care they removed them and kicked me out of the bnb I was homeless and so utterly destroyed I just didn’t know what to do. They didn’t let me see them for almost 7 weeks and even them it was only for one hr!! Supervised.
Me and the kids did nothing to deserve what happened and all I was told was get housed an you can have them back..
So I did, then they said they needed to do parenting reports ect ect long story short I eventually had my son home 19 months ago on the understanding my daughter would also return at a later date zoom forward to now and situation is this
My ex has a residence order for my daughter and I have a contact order in place, my ex was/is breeching the terms of the conditions so I went back to my solicitor. We have another court hearing next week as he’s in contempt of court, but now he’s refusing me contact as of today (having found out we are back in court) with my daughter saying things like “she constantly goes back covered in cuts and bruises” and “she smells of urine” ect it’s all lies!! after everything that’s happens over the last 3yrs I’m petrifyed I’m going to loose my kids again I have no faith in

My cousin needs help. She is in a sh1tty situation. Her daughter use to sneak out of the house at age 2, her neighbor called CPS on her. They told her to child proof the house better, so she did. One day HER NEIGHBOR helped her daughter out the window, then called CPS on my cousin. CPS showed up and took both her kids. They said my cousins husband was a druggy and abusive and THAT was why they were taking the kids. So my cousin filed for divorce, she got into a drug rehab program like they told her to (even though she wasn’t on drugs), CPS wouldn’t let her move back into her house (making her homeless). She is in the process of finding a new house, and her kids were staying with my aunt (her mother). But then CPS decided that home wasn’t suitable either, because “both kids needed their own rooms”. Ok, we’re talking about 2 toddlers. And the boy actually was using the dining room as a bedroom. They said that didn’t count. My aunt is VERY clean, very nice, is GREAT with kids, but now CPS took the kids and wants to place them with a family who can adopt them! It’s WRONG, it’s cruel, there MUST be something that can be done. I need to know if there are any groups that are in NY that are willing to stand up to CPS!!!
to Jules B, my cousins daughter was supposed to be asleep when she was taken out the window. Her neighbor was one of those types of people that tries to get people in trouble dishonestly. I have one of those too, MY neighbor does it to ME…she did it to another one of our friends too…that friend is not her friend anymore…and also another one of our neighbors. My mean neighbor claimed that my other neighbors daughter touched her daughters privates…well my daughter has played with BOTH those girls and my mean neighbors daughter was always trying to touch my daughters butt, while the other little girl is very sweet and cool and she’s never done anything weird toward my daughter. The mean neighbor was telling people that my husband threatens her life every time she goes outside, lol, but my husband never even says a word to her. Actually, my husband is still friends with her husband! (I feel bad for her husband, he’s a nice man)

long story short my dad is a abusive (verbally/physically) drug addict and my mom abuses prescription pills and verbally/physically abuses me. I am 14 and I am tired of living with this, so i have some questions:

do i have to go to court?
what is going to happen when I call?
where will they take me? I live in Pennsylvania.
will i be able to keep my pets?
how quickly can the remove me from my house?
could they make me move to a different state?

There is this girl named britney in my town she’s 17 years old and has a 1 year old son. britney and her family have a bad reputation Basically they are well known for causing problems. britney’s mother is a alcoholic who doesn’t have a problem watching her grandson while under the influence. britney’s father committed suicide when she was young sadly although who could blame him, after all that family is trouble. her two brothers are in and out of jail… anyway recently Child Protective Services took her son in their custody because she was snorting prescription pills, smoking crack, and possibly shooting heroin, her son tested positive for drugs.. and because the family is unstable the boy will probably go to a adoption agencie since britney doesn’t know who fathered her son. will she get into trouble for having drugs in her son’s system?
will the mother be sent to juvenile intill she’s 21?
The mother neglects her child by not watching him properly. she takes him out without dressing him warmly Not putting a jacket on him, or hat and gloves. she takes her son out for a walk 2:00 in the morning and later then that strolling him arould when she has no business being out in the first place. she starts fights with people and becomes very violent in front of her son, (she’ll fight another person with her son there)
Because we live in a small town basically everyone is in everybody else’s business therefore rumors are spreading about her alot. of course Child Protective Services did take her child but people are talking about why they took him from her. she deserved it she shouldn’t have children when she can’t even take care of herseif, britney will probably grow up and be just like her mother a alcoholic with four more misfits as children just like her siblings.

Question about Child Protective Services and custody in California?

I have a cousin whose son was removed from her custody when he was 1 day old because she tested positive for Meth. He was in a foster care home for a month and then our Aunt was given temporary custody while my cousin attended drug rehab, etc. My cousin completed the rehab program and was doing quite well for a while. She even got a job for a short period. But when the baby’s father went to jail she seemed to lose interest in getting the baby back. She was fired from her job for not showing up. She had a dirty drug test and has cancelled numerous visitation appointments because she said she was ill. At the last custody hearing the judge opted not to change anything as far as custody for the next 6 months. The baby is now 14 months old and has been with my Aunt for a year. I hear that the goal of the courts in Ca is to reunite the mother and baby. My cousin gave up her rights to 2 other children but seems to want this one because the baby’s father does. Do you think she’ll get custody?

Can anyone help me locae legal services to fight a pending adoption sanctioned by the state?

I am not sure to send this e-mail when I have finshed it. I’m praying it makes it’s way into the right hands..I desperately need some intervention. My story is long and I apologize if I don’t tell it well but it truely comes from my heart…
In June of 2004 my husband and I took in my cousins children. 2 beautiful girls that immediatly stole our hearts. We agreed to this only because we were told the parents were giving them up for adoption. They said we had to wait for them to get out of jail to sign the papers..We trusted them. A months later the mother was released from county jail and we had to return the girls. In November of the same year and the mother called us again and asked if we could keep the children for 6 months while she went back to jail. No one else wanted them. They were 1 & 2 yrs old. Of course, we took them back gratefully. The mother ended up doing 13 months in prison on drug charges…The father did too.
My husband and I called every agency including DCFS to try to keep custody of the children and was told we were to far down the blood line to have any say in the children and that it was DCFS’s policy to clean the parents up, not to remove the children. Once again, we had to turn the children over and the mother refused to let us see them for 7 months.
In September of 2006, I get another call from the mother asking if I’ll take them and put them in school because she had no one to take care of them. Of course, I went and got them. I had them for another for another 11months.
In August of 2007, the grandfather was released from prison and reunited with the grandmother, who was also recently released from prison, decided they wanted the children back where they lived so once again, we had to return the children. 3 months later my husband and I gave up our jobs and apartment and moved to the city the girls lived in so we could at least see them. That month, the mother went back to jail, the father was released from prison and the children lived at their grandparents and we weren’t allowed to see them.
In August of 2008, my husband and I had to move where there was work and begged the mother when she got out of jail to let the kids come w/ us and we would help her find a place and get off the dope. The following month, the mother was busted smoking crack and the children were placed with the grandparents thru Luthern Services.We have not seen them since!!! We have been approved for visitation over a year ago but denied the visits because their Grandparents doesn’t want us to have anything to do with them so DCFS abided by their wishes. I can’t understand why the children were placed with them in the first place. They both have extensive histories of prison, violence and drug abuse just like the parents.
I recently called Luthern Services and was informed that the grandparents want to adopt which means we will never get to see the children we have loved and raised all these years. Don’t we have any rights? I have called agency after agency for the last 5 years trying to adopt these kids. I have followed all the rules and depended on the system not to fail us or the children but once again it has done just that!!! Can we contest the adoption and file ourselves? This is so unfair to us and the children. If you can get them away from the grandparents and convince them you wont tell, they will tell you the want to live with us. Each time we have had to turn them over they had to be pried out of our arms. Isn’t there anyone out the who can help us? All of us!!! Imagine loving and raising 2 children as your own all this time then be denied of seeing them ever again. This is just wrong on so many levels!!! Even if we cannot contest the adoption, is there anyway we can legally get some type of visitation? We are desperate. Everyday without them is a living hell!!! It’s like part of us is lost. Please help us or at least point us in the right direction for help. We have about 6 months before the adoption and we don’t know what else to do!!!

I have been doing internet searches for weeks but can’t seem to get anywhere. Just more phone #s of people who “can’t help” us. I was hoping to come across someone here that might have the right answers, not to cry “boo hoo” !!!
I forgot to add than I live in Central Illinois and I have called several attorneys and the few that will concider want huge retainers and all the others don’t want to fight DCFS. I have been calling state agencies for the last 5 years trying to get these children removed from that environment.

My 17-year-old gay friend is living with his mom who just got out of jail. She is a drug addict who smokes crack daily and is financially supported by her own mother.

Anyways, the 17-year-old’s blood test was positive for cocaine and marijuana.

This is the 3rd time CPS was called to his house.

Will he go to jail or be put in foster home for testing positive to cocaine?

He turns 18 in 10 months.

What legal advice do you have?
