Legal Permanent Resident, 300gm of Heroin, faces deportation?

Sunday, August 29th, 2010

A friend of mine is a Legal Permanent Resident (he has a green card). He got himself into some trouble. He was caught traffiking 300gms of Heroin, and he’s in detention. There’s an ICE hold on him, so he faces 7-30 years in prison, and possible deportation.

A little background story on him… his mother is a natural born American, but he was born overseas. That’s why he has a greencard and not citizenship. He can’t get deported because his whole family is in the U.S.

What options does he have?

PS – I don’t want stupid answers like deport him and all that… this is a serious issue… there’s someone’s life hanging in the balance… so SERIOUS responses would be appreciated.

Can he file for extreme hardship? How can he avoid being deported? He has no prior convictions… he’s been in the U.S. legally for 7 years. PLUS his mother is a natural born American.

Deporting him would mean separating him from his mother, brothers, and sisters for the rest of his life.

Is there any legal recourse if your father married a sociopath?

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

My brother is disabled due to a brain tumor that blew up in the lower middle part of his brain. My mother was his primary care giver. She died. A few months later, my Dad married a woman who has nearly cleaned him out financially. Transferred family property out of state, converted property to cash placed in out of state banks. She has moved my Dad out of the state, away from his family and friends, he is 75+, was in good health, now in failing health due to alcoholism. She intercepts all of his phone calls, and all of his mail, pours him another drink. The one time that we visited for Christmas, she accused my sister, me, and our children of stealing a diamond ring, which turned up after we left– in her bath robe pocket. No apology ever offered. She makes us so uncomfortable that we don’t want to visit. She fights with everyone. I am willing to walk away, but I am wondering if there is anyway to protect my brother’s financial future, my mom would have wanted it.

How can I adopt or request legal guardianship of my sibling?

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

My crack addict mother is in jail for stabbing the father of my youngest sister. My sister was placed in foster care, the DYFS contacted my aunt ( who is the legal guardian of another sister and myself) and asked if she would adopt my little sister, my aunt said no. The child is now two and still in foster care. I’m 19 I work fulltime and live alone, i would very much like to adopt my sister because of the abuse I suffered while in the foster care system.

father lost custody after a long court battle. has paid child support regularly now grandparents looking for money for college, have refused to let the father have any contact with the children citing they wish to have none. They say they cannot work out anything without the court as they are not custodial parents. Who would be the custodial parent??? Does the father need the court to enforce supervised visitation?? Is he responsible for college as it is not stipulated in the divorce???
