Learn And Be Guided About Social Anxiety

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

Have you experienced what it must be like meeting your big boss for the first time? The thought of being watched by your superior while working is stressful, isn’t it? Or, maybe you are so anxious to go to a beach party because you have not shed enough pounds to wear the two-piece swim suit (who knows how many years have them!), and you are so worried on what the people might say if you wear them with those excess baggage wrapping around your body? Those feelings are just normally. For as long as you have reasons to be anxious about anything, it is perfectly normal .But, if the anxiety is eating you up and you become anxious about what other people might say, or think, or do to you, which you know does not have rational basis, and the worst part is, you find it difficult to control your thought or emotion, that is social anxiety.

Social anxiety or social phobia is one of the largest mental health care problems in the word in the present day. A person with social anxiety simply spends time alone, closeted, away from people. They tend to choose to be alone than to be around with other people for fear that they might not fit in some ways or the other. Even when they are with familiar people, they may still feel overwhelmed and have the feeling that every movement and thought they made have been constantly watched or criticized. The feeling of being observed or being misjudged is one of the things that keep them away from people.

People with social anxiety are often misdiagnosed and are usually labeled as schizophrenic, manic-depressive, among other detrimental misdiagnoses. Because there few social anxious people have heard of their own condition and have never seen it discussed on any media, they tend to think that they’re alone in this world suffering from the disturbing symptoms. The tendency is they keep their condition to themselves for fear of being misjudged, and with the lack of info, education, and proper treatment social anxiety continues to impair their lives. In addition, when the time comes that people with social phobia finally gets to their feet and seeks help, the chances are very slim. When worst comes to worst, people who experienced this condition for a day, will have it everyday for the rest of hi/her life. They are people with social anxiety disorder.

One thing common to all socially anxious people is that they share the same knowledge that their thoughts and fears are basically irrational, which only means, they know exactly that the people they think are misjudging and criticizing them are not true at all. They acknowledged that their thoughts, doubts, and feelings are in a way exaggerated and irrational, yet, despite the fact that they know what’s really going on, they find it hard to control, and still continue to feel that way.

If there’s bad, there’s always good, and the good thing is that social anxiety is curable. There are many therapeutic methods which have been studied, but cognitive-behavioral therapy is the only modality that has been made known to work effectively. Actually, the treatment of social phobia through cognitive-behavioral methods has the capacity to produce long-term, permanent relief to sufferers of social phobia. Isn’t it a happy ending, after all?

Be Aware Of Anxiety Attack Symptoms

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

Anxiety attack can be a very terrifying experience. It is a period of sudden and intense fear or discomfort, typically with an abrupt onset and usually lasting for no more than 10 minutes. Sometimes a person can experience a panic attack all of a sudden without particular reason. Most people that experience one attack will usually experience another attack, and those who have recurring attacks, or feel severe anxiety about having another are said to have panic disorder.

Various individuals report different symptoms during an anxiety attack. Some of the common anxiety attack symptoms are:

o Palpitations, a pounding of heart, or an accelerated heart rate
o Increased sweating
o Trembling or shaking
o Shortness of breath
o Chest pain or discomfort
o Nausea or stomach discomfort
o A feeling light-headedness, or faint
o A feeling of unreality
o Depersonalization or a feeling of being detached from oneself
o Fear of losing control or going crazy
o Fear of dying
o Numbness, or a tingling sensation
o Chills
o Feeling of impending doom

These are some of the possible anxiety attack symptoms. A normal person may experience one or more of these symptoms from time to time. Having to experience some of these anxiety attack symptoms is considered normal if you have reasonable explanations for them. But if you are experiencing them with no apparent reasons, it can be a sign of a more serious condition.

A person with phobia will usually experience an anxiety attack as a direct result of exposure to the things that trigger the phobia. These anxiety attacks are short- lived and quickly relieved once the trigger is escaped.

Usually an anxiety attack begins with an unusual bodily sensation from the anxiety attack symptoms. A person having an anxiety attack will then react, with fear that the symptoms are indicators of a much more serious threat and in turn reacts with more fear which intensified into a state of intense anxiety and panic. Cases of the possible situations where anxiety attack can occur are: when driving, on an airplane, crowded areas, or during sleep at night. Sometimes anxiety attack occurs in a situation where the person cannot exit easily from a social gathering, or in a meeting, but others may experience an incident of anxiety for no reason while in comfortable place or even in sleep.

Anxiety attack symptoms are more or less the same feelings we might experience if we feel danger is about to happen. They are signs of how we usually react if we are triggered by fear, worry, and concern. But, chill out! Fortunately, anxiety attack is not an illness.

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

Today’s families are bombarded with colossal stresses associated with the complexities of today’s lifestyle. There is this stagnant economy that habitually demands for parents to have two to three jobs, leaving little or no time for effective parenting.

Parenting education is one way of knowing, the rest are based on parental instincts. However, there are some situations that are as inevitable as much as it is an expected outcome. One very unfortunate but common situation is that of single mothers. It is said that single parents are more vulnerable to physically abusing their children. There are also issues regarding newborns that have low birth weights and are born in poorer regions are said to have developmental barriers, and that poverty will have a strong correlation to the behavior and cognitive development of a child.

All of these well-researched facts are already on board, it up to you to get enough parenting education to suffer otherwise. Parenting education is as important as financing the education for you kids. Just like everything else in this world. Parenting is also a process of gradual learning. Although instincts are primarily present, it is not always right as everything else in parenting is not about always making the right decisions.

Getting help through parenting education does not always necessarily translate that you are raising your child the wrong way. It is even emphasizing the fact that you are willing to better yourself in order to function for your children well. Parenting education does not entirely require you to change the way you raise your children. It will only serve as guidelines and can somehow help you distinguish things you are doing inappropriately.

Foster Parenting: Let A Child Experience A Safer Environment

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

A family is supposedly composed of a loving mother, a hardworking father, and happy children. Well, at least this is the idea behind having a family. Although expected to be, families aren’t always that ideal. However, its imperfection and flaws that make them unique and one of a kind. In the real world, families come in all its different forms, some are a little bit odd while others are fairly simple. But whatever they are comprised of and what ever they will be in the near future, they are still our own little family.

One unique type of family is foster parenting. Foster parenting provides temporary habitation, home, and care for children in crisis. It is part of the children’s treatment, care, and support programs. However, if you think the foster parenting is only a mere unreceptive act of opening your abodes, providing comfortable clothing, and giving the children nourishing food, you are absolutely wrong. For some couples, it is even the closest thing and a supposed first step towards adoption.

Instead, foster parenting is a proactive testimonial of advocacy, nurturing, and love for these children. It may be ideal for couples to be foster parents; however this is not for everyone. If you think that foster parenting is just as easy as 1, 2, 3, you are absolutely wrong. There are certain requirements that need to be accounted for and each requirement varies by jurisdiction. It may be surrounded by principles such as monetary reimbursements or benefits to be given out to the foster family. The primary goal of foster care is to provide support for the children while the reunification with their parents, other family members, or any appropriate permanent living setting is still facilitated. This includes guardianship, placement with relatives, or to an adoptive home.

Children who are brought for foster parenting are the ones that were removed from their birth family due to reasons of abandonment, neglect, abuse, and other matters that endangers their lives and health. Most of these children are filled with confusion, anger, and fear for having been taken away from their only home. Some of them have physical, emotional, developmental, and behavioral problems making it more complicated for foster parents to take care of them.

Nevertheless, they all need supportive and safe environment to go through life and foster parenting is their closest thing to home for the mean time. The children have all the right in the world to live happy and safely away from threat which they unfortunately once called home.

VIDEO: Illegal Drugs & How They Got That Way (History Channel)

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

"There has been a "drug culture" since the dawn of civilization. Sumerian cuneiform tablets from 3000 BC show a poppy harvest, as do ancient Egyptian scripts and Greek statues adorned with poppy crowns. Far more recently, Freud sung the praises of cocaine, which was included in the original recipe for Coca-Cola. But since the industrial revolution, drug use has changed dramatically, and society’s response to this–particularly in America–has been to demonize users and make drugs illegal.

Hooked explores the world of illegal drugs, meeting with pharmacologists and scientists to learn exactly what effect they have on us and exploring the social and legislative changes that have transformed (and, some would argue, created) the drug culture of the 20th century. Outspoken advocates on both sides of the "war on drugs" illuminate this polarizing issue, and fascinating accounts and artifacts illustrate the role of drugs throughout history."

Electronic Cigarettes: The New Nicotine Withdrawal Aid.

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

For some considerable time now the National Health Service in the UK has been promoting aids to nicotine withdrawal in the form of nicotine pads and nicotine gum. Private enterprise has now entered the field with the introduction of the electronic cigarette.

For anyone wishing to try electronic cigarettes the question arises: How do they compare with the established methods of nicotine replacement therapy?

There are three main areas that we need to examine.

i) The delivery system.
ii) The dosage.
iii) Breaking the habit.

1. The delivery system.

Nicotine pads depend upon the nicotine content being absorbed through the skin over a twenty-four hour period. Therefore the effect upon the smoker who is trying to quit is very different to that experienced by inhaling from a cigarette. Due to the slow action of nicotine absorption the quitting smoker does not get the immediate gratification as from a real cigarette. This is a major drawback (excuse the pun).

Nicotine gum is not as slow acting as nicotine pads but still takes a considerable length of time to reach the areas of the brain that are awaiting the desired stimulation. Again, the quitting smoker does not get the immediate stimulation required.

By contrast, the nicotine in the electronic cigarette is delivered in exactly the same way as with a real cigarette. The smoker draws on the electronic cigarette and receives immediate gratification – just like the real thing.

2. The Dosage.

Nicotine patches are available in three strengths: High, Medium and Low strength. The idea being that the quitting smoker starts off with the high dosage then moves onto the medium then low dosage patches.

Typically the dosages are in the vicinity of 21 milligrams, 14 milligrams and 7 milligrams respectively, per patch, for the high, medium and low dosages. Note: these figures are correct according to my research but there are many brands of nicotine patch and dosages may vary somewhat.

By contrast, the electronic cigarette is available in four strengths: High – 16 milligrams, Medium – 11 milligrams, Low – 6 milligrams and None (no nicotine), respectively per replaceable cartridge. One cartridge being equivalent to a twenty pack of cigarettes.

It should be noted that whereas with the nicotine pad the user is subjected to a constant, albeit slow, dosage, the electronic cigarette user can use the device in the same way as a real cigarette, i.e., on demand.

3. Breaking the Habit.

As an aid to stopping smoking the electronic cigarette possesses one great advantage over and above any other method. It looks like and is used in the same way as a real cigarette. There are two major barriers to the smoker who wants to stop smoking: a) Escaping the need for nicotine and b) Breaking the habit of physically using a cigarette. The electronic cigarette provides the answer to both these hurdles: a) By the progressive use of lower dosage cartridges and b) by emulating, in appearance and feel, a real cigarette.

In conclusion, it seems that the introduction of the electronic cigarette is a real boon to those smokers who wish to stop smoking tobacco. It is generally recognized that nicotine is the least harmful component of cigarette smoke and is present in many food items, including tea and tomatoes. There has probably never been an easier way to stop smoking.

Avoiding Nicotine Withdrawal While Quitting (It's Easier Than You Think!)

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

Nicotine withdrawal is one of the most feared difficulties that may arise quitting smoking. It’s one of the reasons why quitting is supposed to be hard, but it’s easier to avoid than you may think.

Nicotine withdrawal can be characterized in two ways: physical symptoms arising from nicotine levels decreasing in the body, and cravings for cigarettes. It’s important to know that these two are different.

Physical symptoms of nicotine withdrawal won’t make you want to smoke. They’ll make you irritable and impatient, among other things, but they won’t actively make you want to smoke. Physical withdrawal symptoms from smoking are easy to deal with: simply wait and they’ll go away.

Cravings for cigarettes, however, can be a bit more difficult to deal with. If you’ve ever tried and failed at quitting with the nicotine patch or something of the like, you’ll realize that cravings for smoking can easily take over your mind and prevent the greatest physical remedies for nicotine withdrawal from working.

Smoking works by convincing your mind that it needs to have a cigarette in order to function. You need a cigarette in order to be on the phone, you need a cigarette in order to deal with the drive home from work, etc.

This isn’t exactly the case, however. It is possible to go through the day without even wanting a cigarette. Sure, cigarettes can be addictive, but if you know how to remove yourself from the addiction, it’s a walk in the park, and you’ll never look back.

I tried quitting smoking about a million times through the various quitting methods that everyone says will work, including nicotine gum, some anti-smoking pill, and a couple other home brew methods. They all work from the same flawed principle, however: smoking is not a physical addition, it’s a mental one…

I finally was able to quit after picking up a couple of online books about quitting. It’s amazing just how easy it is once you know the secrets. Learn just what that secret is from these books on quitting smoking and start your life anew today!

Natural Methods For Quitting Smoking (You'll Be Amazed at What Works)

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

When most people think of quitting smoking, they turn to the standard over-the-counter remedies, generally either the nicotine patch or nicotine gum. If you were to look into their success rates you wouldn’t really want to buy them, but forget about that, they’re accessible, right there, and you want to buy them right now, right? Yeah, didn’t think so.

Picture another industry. Let’s say that Company X releases a product that works less than ten percent of the time, offers no refunds, and gives you bizarre dreams, upset stomach, and drowsiness. They probably wouldn’t make it very far, would they?

Yet for some reason the nicotine patch continues to be sold, and people continue to buy it. Why? Because nobody seems to understand just how to quit smoking.

Smoking isn’t like a cold, you can’t take some magic pill and make it all better. A visit to the doctor won’t really help, because the doctor is there to treat illnesses, which smoking isn’t.

What does this all mean to you? You want to quit smoking, not line the pockets of some company that makes a product that doesn’t work! You need to understand just how smoking works as an addiction.

Think about the first time you lit a cigarette. You can probably remember that. You were probably out with some friends, and you probably absolutely hated it.

Now think about the time when you decided, “Hey, I’m going to make this smoking thing a habit, I like not being able to breathe very well!” You probably can’t remember that as well.

Smoking is something that works on your subconscious, through connections in your brain with various events. You probably have a few friends that you always smoke with. If you’ve tried quitting, you dread meeting them because you know that you’re going to crack and start smoking again, right?

Weight loss and self hypnosis

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

There is a perception among some people that self hypnosis can independently be used to lose weight. This is a wrong perception, as self hypnosis is used as a tool to make changes in your subconscious mind, which will help you in losing weight fast by changing some of your bad habits that are resulting in over weight.

Over weight can result in negative emotions like anger, lack of confidence and depression. Some causes of weight gain are over eating, excessive alcohol, drugs and absolute lack of any physical activity.

Over weight can be due to different reasons like physical, psychological and genetic. The toughest to cure is genetic. A person suffering from this kind of obesity had to undergo surgery to remove extra fat from his body. Physical reason may include some disease, like it has been seen that some people gain weight dramatically after prolonged fever. Psychological reasons include the reasons related to mind.

When ever any one goes for hypnosis session, there is a prehypnosis test that every one has to go through. In this test the psychological health of the person who is undergoing hypnosis is evaluated to find out the negative feelings that may be hidden inside his subconscious mind. If these feelings do exist, then the job of the hypnotist is to help the person to get rid of these feelings.

Important thing to remember is that if a person does not want to get hypnotize, no one in the world can hypnotize him. So all these fears, that you will become some kind of slave are totally baseless. Best results come when both the hypnotist and the person undergoing hypnotism work in accord with each other. In case of self hypnosis also, you have to believe in hypnotism to get some sort of result. Having said that, you don’t have to be a believer in truest sense of the word, but at least you should not distrust the process before actually going through it.

Self hypnosis can take care of both physical and psychological problems. Self hypnosis works on subconscious mind. All the experiences that we go through in our daily lives are stored in the subconscious mind and over time these experiences takes form of habits and hidden desires. You may notice that sometimes you react almost automatically, the truth is that our subconscious mind is doing this and we don’t even know. Self hypnosis will help you in harnessing the power of subconscious mind.

Smoking Cessation Methods That Don't Work

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

There are a number of ways to quit smoking that are floating around. Annoyingly, however, there is also a great number of smoking cessation methods that don’t work, undermining peoples’ confidence in the working ones. Read on to find out what to avoid!

Nicotine Replacement Therapy
You’re not addicted to cigarettes because you crave nicotine, you crave the cigarettes! You want the tactile stimulation of holding the cigarette, the outlaw look, the whole atmosphere that smokers have. Granted, that’s all a facade, but it’s hard to see that. Treating smoking like some kind of disease ultimately leads to failure, as the poor success rates of NRT users are indicative of.

Meditation
I wasn’t going to put this one on here, because it sounds a bit ridiculous, but I’ve seen a ton of people marketing products that will somehow “hypnotize” you into not smoking. If you were to look at it objectively, you’d know that it was rubbish, but the desperation of people who want to quit smoking is capitalized upon and they still manage to stay afloat.

E-Cigarette
I’ve only recently started hearing about this thing, and every time I see it I feel my stomach churn. The whole point of quitting smoking is to not take nicotine into your body. How does replacing one kind of cigarette with some fancy electronic nicotine delivery doodad really solve anything? Exactly.

An unfortunate side effect of the number of wonderfully poor cessation methods out there is that people who want to quit find themselves discouraged and give up or postpone the idea of quitting.

Luckily, there are a few methods that actually do work. Take a look at my easyquit system review to see what can work for you right now!

Dealing With Nicotine Withdrawal – You Can Survive It!

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

Quitting smoking has always carried the burden of dealing with nicotine withdrawal, one of the scariest and most difficult parts of quitting. Luckily, it can be easier in a few easy ways.

First, you should know exactly what’s going to happen. The symptoms of nicotine withdrawal will tend to pull you back towards smoking.

You will be irritable. Things will wear your patience thin very, very quickly. People will probably remark that you’re being short tempered.

It won’t make you want to smoke, but you’ll likely feel cold-like symptoms as well. Coughing, sniffling, and the like are all the body’s response to the poisonous chemicals you’ve been putting in it by smoking.

You’re also going to feel a sense of depression or regret. I went through three days of feeling like I was going nowhere as I was quitting. Annoyingly, the conditioned response to being depressed is to smoke a cigarette, which would undermine the entire thing.

The good news? The symptoms go away. It takes a couple of days, but after the first three days are over you’ll notice that they’ll drop to a fraction of their intensity, and they should be gone after a full week.

If you know what you’re getting into, it becomes more manageable to deal with the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal. The first time I tried quitting (cold turkey, I might add) I became extremely depressed and confused on the second day, because I had no idea why I was experiencing those symptoms. I tried several times to quit cold turkey, but never lasted more than two or three days.

Incidentally, the way that I finally quit was with something called the EasyQuit System which is a behavioral therapy book on curing your mind’s need to smoke. After reading through it, I found quitting to be exceptionally easy and quit without looking back at all!

When all looks lost and you’re trying to figure out how to get back with your ex, one of the things you need to hold onto is that 95% of all relationships that look as if they’re well and truly over, need not be.

Don’t fret and bear in mind that if one person believes that the relationship is still worth giving one more try then that is all it takes to revive it.

First is to break all contact with them for several months. This will allow them to think things over and they also wont feel pressured about making their decision.

Often times in the heat of the breakup things get said and positions get taken that given time, are soon relinquished as reasoning takes over. So if you want to get to the heart of how to get back with your ex then seriously, give yourself and your ex some time.

Don’t keep on pushing your ex to discuss the matter with you until they are ready to. They might feel smothered about the issue and will most likely leave for good. Give them some space and plenty of time.

If he is out dating someone else, just be confident that they are on a rebound and it can’t last. They just want to convince themselves that the relationship is through. That is not necessarily true.

It is a known statistical fact that rebound relationships are full of complications so they rarely work. People on the rebound are likely not over their ex and still have feelings for them. So dont worry if they are dating someone else.

The truth is getting your ex back is more about the two of you than anyone else, so make sure that you keep on top of your appearance, you’re not doing anything to alienate your ex and that you’re appearing in control and pretty soon you will have stopped wondering how to get your ex back, because they’ll be back with you.

How to Deal With A Break Up After Your Boyfriend Dumped You

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

I feel like dying because my boyfriend dumped me! It isn’t the end of the world and it isn’t even close. Even though it hurts, it isn’t going to kill you. This is something that you can and will get over. It will take some work, some help, some readjusting in the way you think, and some time. Be sure that just because you are upset that my boyfriend dumped me doesn’t mean that life stops, life goes on. Be ready for it.

Getting past the idea that my boyfriend dumped me isn’t going to be easy but it also isn’t going to be impossible. You are going to have to pick yourself up and dust yourself off and move along. The alternative means that you will be stuck wallowing in your own misery. If that is no life that you want to have then do what it takes to get out of it. It takes work to climb back out of the pit but the work is worth it.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help but be careful where it is that you ask for it. If you are battling depression because of it, seek professional help. This doesn’t mean that you are going crazy, depression is something that many people deal with so don’t worry about people judging you. Do try to beat it, though.

It may be, though, that you have good friends or family that can help you out while you are trying to deal with that fact that my boyfriend dumped me. Be careful to not lay too much on these people, though, and when you ask for advice, follow it.

Stop complaining about your life all the time. There is no sense asking for advice from people close to you if you don’t listen to their suggestions at all.

You might need to rethink your attitude about being dumped. Look at it from another angle or someones point of view. You might think that your life is over now that he is out of your life but that might not be true for another person.

Make sure to keep yourself busy to take your mind off things. Perhaps you would like to take up a new hobby to better yourself. Discover a new passion for things now. Channel your energy into something positive.

The end result will be a happier you. Once you have found that happiness, it will become magnetic and draw in the person that you dream of, the one that makes you smile and makes you feel like you belong. It will make you look back on this dark time in your life when you were crying because my boyfriend dumped me and see it as one of the best things that ever happened to you.

Ways to Get Your Wife Back

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

Well, you blew it and now you are crying, I want my wife back! Was it something dumb that you did or kept doing? You probably had it coming, then. You dug your hole and now you’re stuck in it. So are you going to just stay in that hole or are you going to try and climb out of it? If you are serious when you say, I want my wife back then you better get climbing.

You need to learn humility, beg on your knees if you must just to get her back. You don’t expect to welcome you with open arms after everything that you have done to her.

Accept responsibility for your actions. Don’t even think about making up excuses just to justify your wrong doing. Don’t contradict her if she points all your faults. Lying will only get you in hot water and aggravate the situation. If you think that what she mentioned unimportant, then how come your marriage is in shambles?

The second thing is to do is to promise that this time she should see an improvement in the relationship. Take action to convince her she you are really set on correcting mistakes made in the past.

For those of you that have a problem with drugs or alcohol, you better go and get some help. You should be working on that before you start telling her that you are trying to change. If it has to do with anger issues, get enrolled in anger management classes and start taking them.

Whatever problem it is she says you have, you better be making steps to get it corrected. If you really want my wife back you better get serious about making those changes.

You have to commit yourself to changing all your ways. Don’t think that everything is fine and can stay as it is now. Expect that you will repeat the same mistakes in the future.

Swallow your pride and learn to be humble when asking her to come back. Dont let your pride get in the way of getting your wife back in your arms again.
