An off duty police officer in NJ got 11 years for driving drunk and killing a 2 year old and her mother is?
September 8th, 2010in a coma, do you think he should have got more itme or less time, that is what happens when you drive drunk and now his life is ruined, the mother is in a coma and she lost her baby all because he got behind the wheel while he was drunk.

Based on what I’ve seen in my own experience, that officer got a longer sentence then the average civilian would for a similar crime. Which is fair in my opinion, he broke the law and sadly people got killed, he has to pay the price now.
He wrecked the lives of a family and now he has to pay the piper, it seem’s he received a larger sentence than most civilians, and that was because he breached the public trust.
COP QUOTE:
The handcuffs are tight because they’re new. They’ll stretch out after you wear them awhile.”
Fair sentence.
Based upon the cases I have seen, he got more time than a non-police officer. I have seen cases where celebrities and sports stars have multiple drunk driving charges, including accidents involving alcohol and death, and not done any jail time. Not even a weekend. The cop should have known better. He got what he deserved.
I didn’t bother with the article because the details aren’t important to me. I don’t think the police should be exempt from punishment for breaking the law, and I don’t think they should be subject to extra punishment. Fair and equal treatment under the law is what I expect, regardless of profession.
But because he IS a police officer, the sentence will end up being a bit harsher as there are political aspects to the community. And as long as they are still within the guidelines for minimum and maximum penalties, it still qualifies as equal treatment under the 14th Amendment.
Thats the time he got from our justice syatem. It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. The law is the law. We punish based on statutes and not on opinion and sympathy. Many people have killed while driving drunk and have gotten much lower jail terms. I think he got higher than average solely because he is a cop. I find that unfair.
Its a lose/lose for all involved.
11 years is a high sentence for unintentional murder. His life is over. no amount of time can bring back the victims or console the survivors. 11 years will serve its purpose of punishment and deterence to others who hear about it.
He got about the same sentence as the “average” person would get so I think it was fair.
what really sucks about it is that he is gonna be on protective custody for his entire sentence because he’s a cop and cant go into general population for his own saftey. and in many prisons PC is 23 hours a day in your cell. people go nuts. its like being in the hole.
Thats a pretty stiff sentence. Its typically not that long for a DWI with death. 4-6 is what I usually see. Of course they never do that long either.
Given the loss of two innocent lives I have no issue with the sentence.
Its ironic though that the DUI driver always seems to walk away from fatal TA’s that they cause.
