September 6th, 2010i have a brother that is a heroin addict for years now. recently hes complaining of itching all over and his room is filled with bed mites. my mother and i dont know if its true. my father thinks its that he got a hold of something that he injected and is giving him an allergic reaction. i dont know anything about this drug and neither does my mother so i am lost. please dont judge i am just trying to help my brother.
thank you so much to everyone who answered. i also forgot to include he already has the worst HEP there is, and he already has a bad liver. thank you so much for not judging.
It usually means your brother can not go a day with out his heroin, kind of like a alcholic can not go a day
without a drink.
I would try to get your brother into a drug rehab program.
That way he can get the help he needs.
Oh my God i’m really sorry about your bro if I was you I would try to contact a rehab clinic somewhere and try to get him in it. I’m not sure what else to say im only 13 but try to get him registered into a rehab clinc ASAP i’m sorry I couldn’t be a better help
Your brother needs to see a doctor and he needs to get into a rehab facility before he kills himself. Heroin is always cut (diluted) with other things. IF it were not it would kill outright because junkies are used to using a certain amount based on it being cut. Using pure would be an overdose. Who knows what his might have been cut with. He could be having an allergic reaction or he could be hallucinating. Your parents are allowing him to continue in his habit by allowing him to live in their house. Tough love would mean clean up OR get out. He should not be exposing the rest of the family to this.
The itching could be caused by something such as liver problems, maybe hepatitis. Drug addicts who use shared needles very often transmit diseases between themselves. Diseases of the liver can cause intense itching all over the body.
Hun. I won’t judge I had a pretty bad problem for a couple years when I was younger. It sounds like he is going into some kind of withdrawls. That or he has something bad he shot that he might be having a reaction to. Google cotton fever. Good luck hun
Well, it could be due to needle-sharing. However, heroin can be found in many forms; it isn’t always injected. He could be suffering withdrawals if he hasn’t had any in a few days, or maybe he is being honest. First I would admit him into rehab, and second I would actually check his bed for mites. Who knows, he might be telling the truth.
I really feel for you here; I have two siblings who are addicted to cocaine and one is an alcoholic; it never is easy, but I just wanted to tell you that you can make it, even if it seems really hard. :)
Itching is a common sign of opiate use, but his itching sounds more related to his hep c.
I also am an opiate addict, and i had hep c, and i did get extremely itchy when i got sick…along with many other symptoms, like numb toes, skin rash, memory loss, mental confusion, shortness of breath, bowel problems, and more. I was a mess, and i was sure i was dying.
TTheydo have treatment now. It sucks…it’s basically a year of chemotherapy and some nasty pills, but I am cured….for about 8 years now. I feel a lot better. I also am clean from heroin now.
Don;t give up hope, but it’s something he has to want to do.
He should be able to get treatment for his hep c even if he does not have health insurance. At a minimum he needs to go have some blood work done and probably a liver biopsy.
Pruritis or itching is a common side effect of mild toxicity and can be a symptom of kidney or liver failure. People who take prescribed drugs often have these symptoms.
If he’s injecting heroine it could be cut with any crap literally. It could also be cut with pepper, brick dust, scouring powder and who knows what else. heroine itself isn’t especially harmful to your body its the impurities its cut with that do the damage.
If he’s injecting, I’m not surprised he’s itching.
There is a chance he has bed mites but these would be easily identified if you changed the bedding and gave the room a good clean.
