Are there any drug therapists on here or someone of that nature.?
August 23rd, 2010I’m kind of worried about my mother. She us to have an addiction to Meth she went to rehab for it about 9 years ago. And recently she has been acting as if she were high on some kind of drug. She does have a lot of health problems for which she takes medicine for. But I haven’t seen her act like this off of her medication.
She doesn’t sleep, Her eyes are blood shot red, She spends hours in the bathroom, She really isn’t acting herself lately.
What are you thoughts?
Talk to your Guidance Counselor at school. You shouldn’t be dealing with this by yourself. You need to talk to someone about your mom’s health for your own good and for hers.
Sorry to hear you are going through this, but you have to be able to be a teenager and not your mother’s keeper. She needs help without bringing you down to her level.
Good luck ~ I’ll be thinking about you and hope things go okay….
Please talk to someone you trust about your situation.
I have occasionally seen paramedics, at least one doctor, and others in the medical field on YA. However, I am none of the above.
I agree with the 1st answer about seeing a counselor to help resolve your mother’s health problems. For reasons of doctor confidentiality, I don’t think you can get direct medical info from your mother’s doctor. However, most doctors have assistants or nurses who you can talk to for general medical assistance. Perhaps, you can make a list of the medications you mother is taking before calling.
If possible, the best thing might be for you to go along with your mother to see her doctor. If she is back on meth, she might have to go back to rehab.
I’m sorry that you have to take care of yourself as well as your mother. I wish you the best.
Is there another adult in your life that you trust and can talk to, such as an aunt, uncle, or grandmother? You may want to speak with them and tell them that you are worried about your mother because she doesn’t look well, and you’re afraid she is sick. Maybe they can encourage her to see a doctor. If you have a good relationship with your mother, ask her if she is unwell and tell her you are worried about her. Try to be as supportive of her as you can and just tell her you want to help because you care about her and need her. Hopefully, she will try to seek help again if she sees that people care about her. If she doesn’t seek help, you may need to go to a counselor to help you deal with your feelings. Call your local Mental Health Center and ask questions. Good Luck!
I’m not a therapist but a recovering addict for many years. When an addict stops using he or she is still an addict. The disease is still there getting stronger. That’s why regular maintenance like meetings is needed to help us stay clean.
Your mother sounds like a classic case of addiction. Every thing in your question points to the fact that she is using. What do you think she is doing in the bathroom for so long. That’s where addicts hide to use needles.
One thing you have to realize is that your mother is sick just like someone that has cancer. She can’t control what she is doing. There’s really not much you can do for her except being kind and loving and doing a little gentle nudging in the right direction. I know how she feels: trapped. She is not going to get clean until she’s ready, until the pain of using becomes greater than the pain of not using. The best thing you can do is focus more on taking care of yourself.
I wish both of you the best and I’ll remember mom and daughter in my prayers.
