I’m thoroughly convinced that alcoholism is not a disease, but a choice.
Sure, some people may have more addictive personalities, but it still comes down to choice.
Teach your children well, make sure they are well-informed and trust them to make their own decisions.
Teach them coping skills and they’ll be fine. Make sure you keep your sobriety in check and stay in counseling long term, for their benefit if nothing else!
:) Good luck and congratulations on getting (and staying) sober!
It depends on how much/how often you drink around your child. If you drink a lot and more often the chances of your child repeating those habits will become higher than if you didn’t drink as much around them.
There’s no cut-and-dried factor to determine whether someone will be an alcoholic. And, it’s not genetic. My father is an alcoholic and I’m a teetotaler.
New studies say that You’re children are definitely “behind the eight ball”. If you know the expression! Social values & circumstantial or psychological stress is a big factor. Love them, raise them with good values & give them the tools to be able to handle stress properly. Most importantly show them! You got to live it…..by example ! kids will follow your lead
You may have stopped drinking, but did you change?
Children OFTEN do exactly what their parents did because you’re their role model.
If you didn’t do so, get to AA and do the program (don’t just go to meetings and talk about it). This gets you a spiritual solution to your spiritual malady. Your children can then grow up with a mom that’s spiritually healthy. And that’s a great thing.
