How does my mothers drunk in public charge affect my home child care?
August 21st, 2010She was arrested for disorderly conduct the other night for being drunk. How will this affect my home child care, she lives with me.
I’m going to go to her court date with her, she’s 60 and never been arrested for anything before. We cannot afford a lawyer, any suggestions for court and what I have to report if I do for my childcare. Thanks.
As long as she isn’t responsible for caring for the children at your home daycare I cannot see how her charge should affect you or your business. I wouldn’t even think you have to let the parents of the children in your care know about this if she is not involved with taking care of them.
its up to u whether or not u feel like u should let the parents know. as far as getting a lawyer and not being able to pay for it, there should be free lawyer clincs. giving u legal advice. or at least giving u a discount . ask around the court building. im in california and we have a ton of them.
Say this in front of the judge:
Mom, I love you alot; but it breaks me down seeing you behave this way. I think that if you lay off alchohol for a while, you will make a better mother and woman. Your behavior today affects who I will become tomorrow. If you agree with me, and think that about a month of rehabilitation will change your judgement on alchohol, then I agree with you. I only want the best for you, and that is why you shouldn’t drink in general. If you could think wisely for that moment you hand the cashier money for beer, give that money to a church or charity to people who cannot even afford beer. I love you, Mom.
Then hug her. I have been through this. Trust me.
God Bless you.
It won’t affect your childcare but you should alert the parents about it.
Actually you need to get your Handbook out that you should have gotten when you were licensed I am pretty positive that if any one in the home is arrested it must be reported to your licensing agency… You can try to hide it but if they find out and it will be in the papers you will be shut down or given some stern disciplinary actions…. You should really look into this as you do not want charged with child endangerment……. I own a childcare and these are the laws in my state you need to check yours out and quick…..
It depends on your states laws but yes you may have issues. They may say that she cannot be anywhere near the children or be left alone with them but if it’s a first offense they may not say anything. The children’s parents may have a problem keeping their children there if they know she will be there. You can always get the state to provide you with a lawyer if you can’t hire one yourself.
