We will help you get your mom off drugs!

This has been going on for about seven or eight years now, and I don’t think our family can take it anymore. My mother is addicted to drugs like sohma and vikadin (spelled correctly?) and she says she uses them b/c she multiple schlerosis but she has been addicted to them far longer than she was diagnosed with her illness.
When she ODs, she goes into what our family calls “spells”. Her speech becomes slurred and she never knows what she is talking about, she can barely stay awake, and sometimes she just passes out. We always find a variety of pills in her pockets.
Apparently it’s illegal for us to talk to her doctor, and she keeps all of her medical information secret.
When she wakes up from these “spells” she acts as if she can’t remember anything.
She has only OD’d so badly that she ended up in the hospital once, and we can’t use that against her b/c we have no recollection of it.
How can we help her help herself? How can we make her see that she does have a problem?

I’m pretty much the most awful human being you can imagine and all I think of is jumping off of a building or laying down on railroad tracks. I hate myself.
Not really a question, I just don’t have anyone in my life to bounce ideas off of.
This is the most honest communication of any kind I have made in the past 3 or 4 years.

I am 27 years old and i have 2 daughters of my own. My mother is addicted to narcotics and xanax. She has been some form af an addict most of her life wether it be crack, meth, alcohol, or narcotics.SHE HAS DONE A VERY GOOD JOB HIDDING IT WHEN WE WERE KIDS. but lately it has been narcotics and xanax. eventhough she lives close to me she comes over to visit every once in a while. we get into a fight everytime about her addiction because she is ALWAYS doing something accidentaly to harm me and my family. Everytime she stays over she burns a hole in my couch or my rug by falling assleep with a ciggarette. I told her she is going to burn us all up and kill us one day. well this morning she called me and I she hung up on me with her last words being ” HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY ANYWAY” I hate my mother for being so selfish and disrespectful. Would it be wrong of me to tell her to never call me ever again?

This is going be long, but please bare with me because I’m a very private person; she has no siblings, and this is the best way I can get advice anonymously. It all started last year .. my Grandmother, my mom’s mom and only remaining parent. , was diagnosed with terminal cancer of the stomach, they gave her 6 months… my mom followed her and stayed with her. Around that time, my mom has a gambling habit and during the time she was caring for her ailing mother, she was gambling and needed money and bugged my estranged half – brother for money she had given him for my grandmother’s treatment back. He got infuriated and assaulted her which resulted in hematoma and what they call raccoon eyes, that’s when there’s internal bleeding show up like bruises encircling the eyes. In July when my grandmother loss her fight with cancer…by October we find out my father has been cheating on her for over a year or so… and had basically saving up everything he was making for the other girl… he even paid for the girl’s nursing school. My mom was/is devastated, within 3 days he attempted to have my mom relinquish rights to his 401k, which she did, I wasn’t around and my brother is too stupid to understand the vocabulary.. and she believed his lies when he told her that he was not going to return to the other girl, when just the other night the whole immediate family got the other girl on the phone and for him to tell her that he was never going to see her again… he couldn’t. When the checked from his 401k, us not knowing, he told my mother that he was going to the other woman. I wasn’t around. When arrived.. I gave him a piece of my mind and he assaulted me. We called the cops and we haven’t seen him since. Now, he’s trying to prevent my mom from getting the money and now does not want it in lump sum… when he did initially.. according to the courts. My during these have been hanging around the wrong crowd and I believe she is under the influence…. she doesn’t seem to listen to either brother or me and no longer lives with us…. she comes and goes and seems to be meandering from house of friends…..I just don’t know what to do… I’m going to school for nursing and working…. I just don’t know what to do.

I’m talking about any baby who after it was born had to stay in the hospital to get weaned off the drug of choice their mother was on. I’m in the healthcare profession and I don’t believe in some of the decisions “the system” makes and was wondering what other people thought.

Particularly in the US.
