what do u do if your mother is a drug addict?

my mom has been addited to prescription drugs for 7 yrs.
I want her to stop, but my dad says hes leaving anyway.
what do i do?

   Report her so she is jailed or forced into therapy. Tell your dad to smarten up, he can leave but why would a good man desert his family when they need strength.

   I got a rude awakening one day because a friend of mine was a drug addict. His parents were coming to town and he begged me not to tell them. I was mad at him but avoided his parents so I wouldn’t have to lie to them.

   Three weeks later he required emergency treatment and family intervention. His mom asked me what I would do if someone didn’t tell me my child had a problem and the answer was I would be very angry. I would also question a friend who didn’t step up and I did the same thing trying to do the “right thing” It shocked me to have the shoe put on the other foot and realize I was a false friend regardless of my intentions. I dishonored his parents and family.

   Call your mother’s doctor, family and love her while you help her, it may save her life. Speak up or you get to live with your actions or lack of for the rest of your life.

   I’m so sorry, Gwen. I know how it is from first-hand experience. I’ve done everything in my power, from calling 911 if she fell and is not responsive, I threatened her Dr. I would report him for continuing to prescribe her all of the narcotics he does, etc.
   She is the only one who can do something about it. I would suggest Al-Anon. You will find others going through similar experiences and learn more about why your mother does what she does and how you can’t cure her.
   I hope that helps. Stay strong and remember, she has to WANT to stop before anyone can help her.
