My mother addicted to painkillers / Am i overreacting?

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Since I was small my mother has had problems with the nerves in her stomach she had chrons disease and irritable bowel syndrome .. the doctors say it damaged some of the nerves in her stomach.

For the past 10 years she has been taking DHC CONTINUS tablets. 60mg each. Her doctor prescribed her 28 tablets for a week .. each week. She cannot go a week without these and is on repeat prescription. It says on the packet that she is to take 2 twice daily …. yet I know she takes 4 in the morning the first day she gets them then 3 in the afternoon and another 4 in the evening … coming towards the end of the week she runs out of tablets and is in pain.

I have tried talking to her .. I’m scared she will die of an overdose but she just calls me silly and says she needs to take that amount because she is in such pain. I do believe she is in a lot of pain and that she is more than likely addicted to these drugs but I’m so scared she will overdose taking this amount. Should I worry so much about this?

She also takes depression and blood pressure tablets.

Websites for family trying to cope with a toddler child abandoned by drug addict mother?

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

My nephew is 3 1/2 and his mom left him 6 months ago. She is heavily involved in drugs. He has had no contact with her but occasionally speaks about her. He is in a stable environment and well taken care of although we are trying to find information on counseling or therapy for him. Because of his age and all he has been through we don’t know what would be a benefit to him. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!

Mother addicted to Facebook?

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

I’m 15 and my mother is 41. I have had a myspace account as well as a facebook account for several years now. I check each dayly and talk to friends view pictures etc. for roughly 30 minutes to an hour. My mother does not have a myspace account but she does have a facebook. I’m a sophomore in highschool at the moment, and she is 41 years old and married. She spends roughly 7 or 8 hours on facebook every day. When I come home I find her on facebook. At night, I find her on facebook. And on weekend mornings I walk into our den to find her on facebook. Now don’t get me wrong, I spend a lot of time on my computer, but she has become obsessive. It is really worrying me and starting to bother me. She never spends time with my sisters or my father or me because she is always on Facebook. She enjoys playing the games, or so she says. I have a few other friends who have mothers that spend time on Facebook but no where near as long and mine. Will you please give me advice as to what I can do? or why she might be so addicted?
I’m 16. I hit the 5 on accident. Sorry.

Is the reason why I’m easily addicted to things because my mother drank wine when she was pregnant?

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Not chugging it but she drank frequently.

I find myself yearning for wine even though a second ago, I spit it out, hating it. And had to fight off cravings for a month.

And when I start eating some type of food I really like, I can’t stop eating though my stomach’s bulging. But no, I’m not fat. Underweight, in fact.

Is my mom addicted to cigars? She smokes too much cigars daily, coughing a lot and deep inhaling smoke?

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

My mom is 50 years old heavy chain-smoking woman for years. She is on her 3 packs a day habit with no intense to quit or cut it down. She is smoking for about 25 years, and she is always with a ciggie in her mouth smoking like a chimney and every day she smokes more and more. She also likes to smoke two cigs at once saying that she really needs to smoke more to feel good. In a recent years she started to smoke cigars on a daily purpose, she is really deeply inhaling them and says that she likes big smoke that fills her inside. She has a female friends about her age, who also smokes a lot and when they come to our house it is smoke everywhere i’m almost out of breath.
And my mom changed a lot. She looks older than she is, she got wrinkles on her face too early, she has a yellow tar stained teeth and very bad breath, she is always coughing a lot and constantly out of breath, sometimes i noticed that she is feeling dizzy, but she says she is ok. Is it a big problem?
