what are the affects on a child born to a drug addicted mother?
March 14th, 2010I would like to know what kind of problems kids have when they are born to a drug addicted mother, and when can I read up on this subject?
She was taking some kind of pain killers, but she was abusing them.
each drug causes different defects, which drug(s) is the mother using during pregnancy?
If they’re a type of drug that goes through the placenta, the baby can be born addicted and have withdrawal symptoms.
If it was exposed to the drugs for a long time during pregnancy, the baby can have its development affected. How will depend on what, how much, and when, but it’s not normally a good thing.
Abuse will weaken the mother’s health and she is more likely to deliver the baby prematurely, or have complications during childbirth.
If the mother has addiction issues, her shaken mental health can make her less fit to take care of the baby. Not necessarily anough to make her unable to take good care of it, but less than desirable.
That’s what I can think of.
