My boyfriends mom has been addicted to morphine for 30 yrs and takes 40 meds a day. Her husband, mom and siblings did an intervention 15 yrs ago and they no longer speak to her. Her sons, now 28 and 30 are fed up and scared to have an intervention because they don’t want to lose contact w/ thier mom. ONe son is in Iraq for now and the other is just so fragile I think because he really doesn’t have ANY family other than his mother and at the moment. How can I gently explain to my boyfriend that he needs to get his mother help? I don’t trust her at all, i’ve known her for 4 yrs and she’s stolen, lied, cheated and every other thing u can imagine an addict does. She falls asleep randomly with food in her mouth and cigarettes in her hand. She’s a crazy and I don’t know how to deal w/ her or my own boyfriend when it comes to this situation, he’s soooo protective over her.

my step mom al ways has a caffinated drink by her side ( cola or cofee) she drinks about 4 to 5 colas a day…everytime i go to get a soda my step mom has drunk them up lol…how could i help her? and is she addicted?

I am in Tennessee and have hired an attorney. The courts have signed some kind of document stating I have temporary custody until she can prove herself not to be addicted to crack. They can not find her to serve the papers, she is homeless and doesnt have a job. She is threatening to leave the state with my daughter and her other 16 year old daughter who is preganet. It is my weekend to get my daughter but my ex wife wont answer her cell phone. My ex wifes parents are concerned that my daughter will be hurt or molested in the enviroment she is in and the 16 year olds father lives in Arizona and hasnt been able to talk to his daughter for 3 weeks so he doesnt know if she is even ok. The courts will do nothing for me because they cannot find my ex wife. What can I do?

My father passed away in 2005. My mother recieved death benefits from him in the sum of close to 70,000. She gave 5,000 to us because my B/F bought a home in the country for our family and her. My boyfriend Co-signed a loan for her to get a new car, however we soon found out she was spending about 1200 sometimes more a week at bingo. So I made her pay off the car before she was broke. And we also paid off all her credit cards. She went through 50,000 in 5 months at bingo. After she spent all that money now she went and took 3 or 4 seperate loans out on her car and spends that money on bingo. She also got some credit cards and has them maxed out. I have tried several time to talk to her but she doesn’t listen. Last night she went to bingo and won 1100.00 but she put it back into bingo with rip offs and left that night with 40.00. What should I do and where can I get help for her?

I am so annoyed. My mother spends the whole day munching on ice and I’m not even exagerating when I say whole day. Why does she do this? She wasn’t like that before!! It’s like she’s obsessed.
she is not dieting and she doesn’t smoke, it’s just a habit that she has lately I don’t know how it began.

My name is Amber, and I myself am not an alcoholic. My mother, however, has been an alcoholic for my entire life and I just found this out recently.

She’s taken major steps in hiding her alcoholism from my sister and I but the unavoidable happened.

Though I don’t know much about her alcoholism just yet, I’ve asked doctors if the trigger might possibly be Premenstrual dysphoric disorder.

The doctor who specializes in women and the effects that such a disorder might have told me that PMDD could absolutely be a trigger in my mother’s alcoholic fits.

She will only drink every few months, but every time she does it’s a few days before and during her menstrual cycle.

For as long as she has been drinking she absolutely refuses to seek any professional help.

Her first marriage crumbled because of this, and now her second with my step father is nearly over as well.

I just wish to talk to someone to help me with guidance.

I’m completely lost at how to approach her and tell her that this problem that she’s been having for over twenty years might just be set off by a chemical imbalance.

It would really help me if I could talk to someone that I knew might be having or had the same problem as my mother.

I implore you to read this knowing that the woman who has taken care of me for seventeen years is now in dire need of my help.

My mother has advanced alcoholic cirrhosis. She was diagnosed 6 years ago and the doctors told her then if she didn’t stop drinking she would be dead in five years.

For a year she did stop. But since she has resumed drinking heavily, mostly on the weekends. She has various problems associated with her cirrhosis including Portal hypertension, esoph. varices, ascetis.

Her skin isn’t yellow but has this weird green/grey hue to it, and now since November last year she has this horrible rash all over her arms and legs.

She has also been diagnosed as bi-polar but I wonder if she is Bi-Polar at all and it is just the disease effecting her brain.

She went to a dermatologist last week about the rash and he diagnosed it as psoriasis but I doubt he is fully aware of her alcoholism as she keeps it a secret.

My question is how much longer can she possibly go on like this??

How much abuse can my mother’s body take??

I love my mom and I care for her but it is getting to be very overwhelming for me to live in this situation.

Please help me with your suggestions and opinions!
