she was recently in a rehab, and has now moved in to my home, and she said they used some sort of chart so that they would know how much extra insulin to give her when she knew she was going to go off of her diet. Like at Christmas when lots of people brought her goodies. Is there such a chart?

Sorry for the long story but it’s the only way to sum up my question!

HISTORY:
My step son is 17 years old and has been to counseling, rehab & AA (for prescription drugs). My husband and his ex have been apart for 5+ years. My husband was a young dad and made mistakes (haven’t we all?!?!). But has spent the last 5 years making every effort to make things better — we always make him the priority over his younger sisters b/c the girls always are first at their mom’s house; we moved to the school district that he wanted to attend, countless conversations about the regret for the mistakes made as a young father and counseling for the two of them (he told his mom he didn’t like it), etc.

Recently my step son has decided to play victim and tell his therapist that his dad is abusive (certainly not since I have known him in 5 years but I can’t speak for the past) and that his dad is a trigger for cutting and drug use. NOTE: I believe his definition of abuse is that we have different opinions than our ‘EMO son” and want better for him.. like many teens, he doesn’t like us telling him that we don’t agree with him!! He has also heard his mom say for YEARS that she was abused and even tried to lie in court with a false police report.

We just moved 800 miles from away from the kids and our family for a job opportunity and we are expecting our first baby together, a boy. This decision came after my step son told us he didn’t want to live with us anymore, just use our address so he can go to the school of his choice. We decided that we couldn’t pass up the stability of this new job offer for our own good so we made the TOUGH decision to move 800 miles away.

It seems as though my step son is using my husband as an excuse for his problems, (cutting, drugs, poor grades, no job, etc). Ironically, all of this blame didn’t start until we moved (and we have heard thru the grapevine that he has NO intentions of visiting us)

Our therapist tells us that we need to cut the rope and give him the space he is requesting (thru his actions). And to tell him that we love him and that we will be here for him IF he decides he wants to be a part of our lives again. This is very difficult to do – we are so hurt!! We want to write my step son a letter and tell him that we love him and that we are disappointed that he is cutting us out of his life with no explanation – it’s unfair that he is using US as an excuse to do drugs, etc.

So, now the question……any suggestions how to say some of these things WITHOUT making him feel guilty (as we have been told NOT to do). Quite frankly, I feel that if he feels guilty that means he KNOWS he is doing us wrong… so what’s wrong with the truth if it’s in a compassionate way?

oh – I mentioned our baby b/c we have been told by his mom that he is upset that we are expecting a boy “the son his dad always wanted” — while I understand to a point it’s not like we went to the store and ordered a baby boy as a replacement. Yes, that’s my adult logic, not a hurt teen talking :)

Ironically his mom and step dad are in the midst of IVF to have a baby too (and share all details with the kids). I am now starting to think “ah haa…it’s not US — it’s is without a doubt the combination of both sets of parents bringing babies into this world”
And… we have had our ups and downs with mom but for the most part we are on the same team — EXCEPT when my step son causes problems… we, the parents, end up in a war… maybe he likes it that was b/c breaks us down – easier to manipulate?!?!?

Stopped drugs about a month ago. At my urging, he started seeing an individual counselor about 2 mths ago & is supposed to start an intensive outpatient program for alcohol/drugs soon(already had intake appt). Thing is, I am 6 mths pregnant with our 2nd child and our 1st is 15 mths. I am also in individual counseling for this. At my counselors urging, I stopped nagging him about his use of these things. It’s gotten WORSE! I am having I have tons of emotion (mostly anger and hurt) . He is working and is successful at paying all the bills, etc. He, however, does not know how to support me emotionally (never learned these skills as a child – and is in counseling to help him.) He is an AWESOME father-somehow able to show emotion he cannot show to anyone else. Tonight, after getting home from a business trip which started his drinking binge all over, he is at the bar with his MOTHER, both getting drunk! Should I give him more time or leave before this baby is born? I am looking into Alanon.

I thought it was rather harsh, as I am 37yo and have waited as long as I could to have kids, so YES, I do know about birth control! I simply adore kids and regardless, knew my “alcoholic” husband would be a good dad, at least because his dad was never around and that he would support me/them. (I am currently a stay-at-home mom so I won’t miss any moment of their 1st steps, etc.) Thanks for giving me hope, as well. It helps to know that my prayers can be answered. I mainly wrote this for moral support, as his family (esp. his mom!) enables him to no end, making constant excuses about “that’s just how he is, how he’s always been” and I FINALLY turned to his mom who lives locally, for emotional support.I feel like she has just stabbed me in the back! When I just had our 1st, she lived with us and they got drunk together as I learned to take care of a newborn! BTW, she DROVE him to her house tonight.

My mother has a drinking problem but she always insists she’s okay to drive and yells and curses at us if we tell her otherwise. If she gets pulled over and is found to be over the legal limit, will I get charged with anything?

i put emergency P.F.A. on him, he beat me to judge, although later his were dropped against us,me and 4 kids ended up on street w/out home, job, belongings. the abuse continues, the justice system is doing nothing to help us and we need financial help soon. i haven’t been called for a job yet, though apps are in. i can now tell ya why women and children disappear daily. alcohol/drug abusers are horrifying and when they manipulate a justice system it gets worse. bradford cty justice has allowed him to stay out of jail, put us on street, get unsupervised visits even w/ 3 yr P.F.A. against him, not get our belongings, not charge him child abuse even w/ pictures and proof of cut up child, and proof of his drug abuse. we just need help till i get a job, i have done ok getting them all basic living needs, we had nothing, but that doesn’t bring cash flow, and i was beat good w/ 2 hurt children.there must be something somewhere because there is nothing but more abuse in bradford cty, PA

SO, my mom’s boyfriend recently moved in with us in September. I never liked the guy, but i always put up a front like i did. I have given him many chances for me to like him, but there are many factors to why this will never happen.
1. He is an alcoholic. He used to attend AA meetings but stopped going, and drinks on and off and I can’t stand to live with this. My mom, nor my dad have ever drank around me, or have binged drank or even are CLOSE to ever having an alcohol problem.
2. His attitude towards me sucks. He doesn’t understand that I AM MY MOTHER’s daughter and he should treat me with the resepct I have given him.

And there are other reason’s too. But last night, he really did it. He almost hit me, and called me every name in the book, saying I was worthless, etc. My mom played referee because I almost hit the guy. My mom WILL not make a desiscion to choose between us (i know she never will.)

ill try and make this long story short , had a friend that i knew for 4 years who never associated with drugs and was a down to earth person, after school finished, he started “experimenting” with drugs now his hooked, dam his mother and father is even buying the drugs for him, he acts like a jerk, cant talk to him, and has a sick obsession of porn thats illegal.. lets say the actors look too young if you catch my drift, what should i do!?! my friend just turned 18

I can’t take Preston’s morphine addiction anymore. There’s nothing more painful than seeing your own brother getting addicted to drugs. I only discovered his addiction a couple of days ago. Our mother called me to tell me about it. She didn’t know what to do either. See, I can’t keep an eye on my brother all the time. I’m currently living in New York because of my job while he is still staying with mom in New Jersey. I’m planning to go home this Friday to intervene with his addiction. The problem is, I don’t think I can find a doctor or a counselor to help me with the intervention. Is it okay for me to do it alone or will it make things worse?
